There are some pretty neat templates for portrait pages where it includes some photos with the portraits. How do you go about using the pre-designed templates with auto-flow?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jenny,
With auto-flow you have to create your own custom layouts by turning the portrait "cells" off to create space for class pics, candids, graphics etc.

    Here's a tutorial:

It seems some of my portraits have their heads too high at the top and they are getting "chopped off". What is wrong and how do I correct this? Other than adjusting the numbers of pictures per page, is there any way to move the pictures around on the page?

    Hi Christy,
You are NOT currently using our auto-flow portrait feature, so you have no restrictions on your photo boxes. You can re-size and zoom as much or as little as you like. The auto-flow makes it easier to layout your photos, but if you want to use the free-form photo boxes that's fine too.

Here are links to re-sizing/zooming and alignment tools:

    Hi Aaron,
I need help changing a portrait to a different class. For example: One of our 3rd grade classrooms was combined with 2 others. So 1/2 the students need to be moved to 2 different teachers. Is their a video that shows how to do this?

How do I make the photo of the the teacher larger?

  • Avatar

    Hi Micki,
It currently has to be done outside of auto flow, but it can be easily done. Here's an article on how to do it.

How can you crop or adjust these photos after they have been flowed onto the page?

  • Avatar
    Aaron Greco

    Hi Andrew,
Currently you cannot inline crop Auto Flow Portraits (although we plan to add this feature in the future). They are set to the standard 3/4 portrait aspect ratio.

  • Avatar
    Andrew Pavelek

    Thanks, that is very problematic.

  • Avatar
    Aaron Greco

I assume your portraits are not in 3/4 aspect ratio? We can help edit outside TreeRing if you need it.

They are from two formats, professionally done & ones we had to take as a staff for missing students. With no ability to crop on the page, it takes a good deal of time to try to adjust candid photos to make them acceptable/to make them all have a similar aesthetic.

I completely understand. You'll have to crop outside of TreeRing using an online site or Photoshop if the person is not centered in the candid shot. Sorry for the inconvenience, I will have this feature in the future.

    Hi Mary,
You can move photos by doing copy paste keyboard shortcuts CTRL-C/CTRL-V Here's a video https://treering.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201319314--VIDEO-Edit-Book-How-To-Add-Copy-and-Duplicate-Text

Can you have two or even three small classes on the same page using the Portrait Auto Flow Tool?

I'm unable to go to background and change my class pages to a new class page templete, I chose the templates for the classes but auto-flow just starts a new page and then doesn't give me the option to change to the layout I would like.

    Hi Suzanne,
You are correct that when you use Auto Flow the process creates the pages for the portraits. The pages are created as the layout you have selected in Manage Portrait Auto Flow. If you want to change the layout of the portraits on the pages, click on # 4 Auto-Portraits while in the overview of all the yearbook pages. Then click on the gear icon under Layout for each section and change the layout.

What should I do if I've gone through the auto-flow process and seen my computer say that it was flowing in the portraits and yet the pages don't show up in my yearbook? Thanks!
  • Avatar
    Debbie
Hi Genevieve - When you log in and go to Yearbook select #4 Auto-Portraits. You can see your autoflow sections and that they contain your portraits. I reflowed your portraits and they are now in your yearbook. Autoflow creates new pages and yours are at the end of the book.

    Hello,
How do I change the font and color of the auto flow class portraits?

Are we still unable to adjust portraits in autoflow? I see it was supposed to be fixed "next year" but I'm not sure when that was posted. Most of our portraits have their heads chopped off at the top in autoflow, but not on the actual photo. It seems overwhelming to edit and add each photo individually!
    Thanks.

Not being able to crop these pictures flowed in was a problem I had several years ago. I thought it was going to be fixed in the next year, still not fixed. It is problematic to have to crop using another program & hope that it looks right next to other auto flow portraits. This really needs to be fixed. (My conversation from a few years ago is above in this thread.)

    Hi Annie/Andrew,
Thanks for your patience with this feature. We're working on a massive upgrade to all of TreeRing (we call it TR5) and this feature is planned to be in it and is planned for release this summer (2018.) I'm sorry it won't help you for this year. We'd be happy to help you crop the photos for you if you want, send us a request at cesupport@treering.com
